Grading Optimization: This specific module runs a separate optimization process that utilizes the GPU (Graphics Card) much more heavily than the core Civil 3D application.

💡 Performance Advice for Civil 3D Users
RAM is Critical:
Civil 3D loads surface data, pipe networks, and corridor assemblies into memory.
Recommendation: Do not build a workstation with less than 32 GB RAM for Civil 3D. If you work with LiDAR (Point Clouds) via ReCap or complex "Project Explorer" reports, consider 64 GB.
Grading Optimization (GO):
If you use the Grading Optimization tool, it uses algorithms that differ from the main program. It benefits significantly from a stronger GPU (Graphics Card). While core Civil 3D cares about the CPU, "GO" cares about the GPU.
CPU Strategy:
Do not buy server processors (Xeon/Threadripper) with low clock speeds (e.g., 2.2 GHz) but many cores. Civil 3D cannot use 32 or 64 cores for rebuilding a corridor.
Buy: Intel Core i7 / i9 or AMD Ryzen 7 / 9 with the highest possible Turbo Boost speed (5.0 GHz+).
Mac Users:
No Native Version: Civil 3D does not run on macOS.
Virtualization: Running Civil 3D on Parallels Desktop (ARM Windows on M-Series Macs) is risky. Simple drawings may work, but complex corridors or Grading Optimization often fail or run extremely slowly due to translation layers.
Best Solution: A dedicated high-performance Windows Desktop.
Project Explorer:
Included with Civil 3D now, this tool generates tables and reports. It is RAM-intensive. If Project Explorer feels sluggish, it is usually a RAM capacity issue.
