Who Uses Civil 3D?

Computation Heavy: Unlike standard Civil 3D drafting, the Grading Optimization "Solver" runs complex mathematical iterations. It consumes significant CPU and RAM resources during the optimization process.

💡 Performance Advice for Grading Optimization
RAM Bottleneck:
Grading Optimization meshes (triangulated surfaces) are heavy. If you attempt to optimize a large site (e.g., a massive subdivision) with only 16 GB RAM, the solver will likely stall or crash. 32 GB is the safe standard.
Visualization vs. Computation:
Computation (The Solver): Uses the CPU. While standard Civil 3D relies on single-core speed, the Grading Optimization solver can utilize multiple cores to calculate drainage and slope constraints. An Intel Core i7/i9 or AMD Ryzen 9 is ideal.
Visualization (The Viewer): Uses the GPU. Watching the terrain morph in real-time and checking "Violation" themes (red/green zones) relies on your graphics card. An NVIDIA RTX 3060/4060 or higher is recommended.
Workflow Warning:
Because the optimization process is resource-intensive, it is recommended to pause other heavy background tasks (like rendering or large file copying) while the solver is running to prevent system instability.
Mac Users:
Not Supported.
Virtualization (Parallels) is not recommended for Grading Optimization because the graphical visualization window often glitches on virtual GPUs. A native Windows PC is required.
