PowerInspect – Ultimate is a powerful inspection software designed to handle complex measurement tasks across a wide range of devices, including CMMs, CNC machines, portable arms, and laser scanners. Multi-Device Inspection and Flexibility
PowerInspect Ultimate supports contact and non-contact devices from multiple vendors, including Renishaw, Hexagon, FARO, Leica, and more. Inspect parts directly on CMMs or on the machine tool to reduce setup time, eliminate bottlenecks, and speed up part validation.
Complex Part and Freeform Surface Inspection

⚠️ IMPORTANT:
Windows Only: PowerInspect is exclusively a Windows application. There is no native macOS version.
Hardware Drivers: Because PowerInspect connects directly to physical measuring devices (CMMs, Portable Arms, Laser Scanners), it relies heavily on specific Windows hardware drivers.
Ultimate Edition: The "Ultimate" version supports Laser Scanning and Point Clouds. This makes it significantly more resource-intensive (RAM & GPU) than the Standard version used for simple touch-probing.

🍏 Advice for Mac Users (macOS)
PowerInspect Ultimate does not run natively on macOS.
Why Virtualization (Parallels/VMware) Fails:
Unlike CAD software, PowerInspect must talk to external hardware (e.g., a Faro Arm, Hexagon Romer Arm, or CMM Controller).
Driver Issues: The proprietary drivers for measuring arms often fail to pass through the Virtual Machine layer correctly.
Latency: The slight delay in USB/Network communication in a VM can cause measurement errors or connection drops during a scan.
The Only Mac Solution:
Boot Camp (Intel Macs): This works because it runs Windows natively.
Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3): Not Recommended. There is currently no reliable way to run PowerInspect and connect to industrial CMM hardware on Apple Silicon chips.
💡 Performance Advice for PowerInspect Users
RAM for Laser Scanning (The "Ultimate" Factor):
If you use a laser scanner to capture a part, you are generating millions of points (Point Cloud).
Loading the CAD model + the Point Cloud into memory eats RAM. 16 GB is rarely enough for high-resolution scanning. Aim for 32 GB minimum.
Graphics Card (NVIDIA vs. AMD):
Autodesk strongly recommends NVIDIA cards for PowerInspect.
The 3D viewer uses OpenGL. AMD Radeon cards and Intel Integrated Graphics are known to have issues with transparency and selecting specific points within a dense cloud.
Cabling & Power Management:
Laptop Users: Ensure your Windows "Power Settings" are set to "High Performance".
Disable "USB Selective Suspend" in Windows settings. If Windows puts the USB port to sleep to save power, your measuring arm will disconnect in the middle of an inspection.
